At Tolleshunt D’Arcy, we believe that every child is called to contribute to a world where fairness, dignity and compassion shape how we live together. Our Christian vision - “Together we grow, together we flourish, together we fly” - inspires us to nurture pupils who understand their responsibility to others and who feel empowered to make a positive difference.
Rooted in Jesus’ teaching of Life in All Its Fullness (John 10:10), we seek to create a community where all can thrive and where every person is valued. This means helping children understand issues of social justice, encouraging them to act with kindness and courage, and giving them opportunities to become active agents of change.

Social justice at Tolleshunt D’Arcy is about helping children recognise that:
Everyone is created equal and loved by God
Fairness, dignity, respect and compassion should shape our choices
We all share a responsibility to care for others, especially those who are vulnerable or face injustice
Small actions can have a big impact when a community works together
Our pupils learn that living out our Christian values is not just about what we believe, but how we behave, how we treat others and how we use our voices to bring hope and healing into the world.

Responsibility in Action
We teach responsibility not just through lessons, but through real opportunities to act. Pupils engage in projects that help them develop empathy, teamwork and a genuine desire to see change.
Examples of responsible citizenship include:
Supporting local and global charities
Caring for God’s creation through environmental action
Helping others in school through buddy systems and leadership roles
Participating in community events and outreach
Speaking up for fairness when someone needs support
These experiences help children see themselves as capable, confident young people who can shape a more just and compassionate world.
Courageous Advocacy
Courageous Advocacy
Courageous advocacy plays a key part in our approach to social justice. We teach children that standing up for what is right is sometimes challenging, but always important. Through classroom discussions, worship themes and pupil leadership opportunities, children learn about real stories of advocacy and are encouraged to identify their own POWs - Powerful Opportunities to Change the World.
Whether raising awareness of environmental issues, supporting food banks, helping victims of conflict or championing fairness within the school community, our pupils learn that faith calls us to action.

Learning Through the Curriculum
Themes of justice, fairness, responsibility and compassion run throughout the curriculum. Children explore these ideas in age-appropriate ways through:
RE, where they learn how different beliefs inspire compassion and service
PSHE, where they develop empathy and understand rights and responsibilities
History, where they examine fairness, conflict and change
Geography and science, where they learn about climate justice and stewardship
Literature, where stories help them step into another person’s shoes
By connecting learning to real-world issues, children develop not only knowledge but also a deep sense of moral purpose.
